We're accepting submissions for Fresh Meat 8 until July 7
~ that's just 10 days left to apply ~
Want in? Apply here.
Not sure? Honey, let's talk.
Fresh Meat 8 isn’t going to be your grandma’s theatre festival. Unless your grandma is committed to the development of new, experimental performance. In which case, your grandma seems dope. Invite her to the festival, and she can have a drink on us.
Because this year, we’re doubling down on development. (Say that 8 times, fast.) At Fresh Meat, we talk a big game about being a “playground for Ottawa’s theatre makers.” And this year, we’re expanding the playground. We’re not just in the sandbox anymore. Oh no. This year, we’re going on the monkey bars.
Artists accepted into this year’s festival will have access to more resources aimed at developing their work to go up on the Fresh Meat stage (*airhorn*). We’re working on relationships with established arts organizations in the city to help artists develop their work, form relationships based on a shared experience, and new skill development.
Does this all sound new and exciting? Well that’s because it is. We’ll be releasing the information about these new partnerships throughout the lead-up to the festival. Keep your eyes peeled.
Of course, this is in addition to the access to a professional stage management & tech team that the artists have access to, as well as free (*airhorn*) opt-in dramaturgy from one of the city’s leading dramaturges.
We tote ourselves as a low-risk/high-reward performance festival where artists can lay it all on the line. And we want to live up to that promise in every way that we can. So we’re doubling down on development! (*airhorn* - last one, we promise).
So apply to Fresh Meat 8! And if it sounds like the festival isn’t for you, tell a friend - tell your grandma! She’s got lots of friends! We pride ourselves on receiving applications from first-time artists, artists whose work wouldn’t normally get air-time at “traditional” performance festivals, and artists whose work is traditionally erased, undervalued and under-programmed elsewhere.
And of course, all of our artists, participants, stakeholders and those present at the festival are expected to adhere to our Safer Spaces Policy, which you can read up on here.
All grandmas welcome to apply. Just don’t be l8. Deadline is July 7 at midnight.
