On the Mainstage:

Apocalypse FM

Written and Performed by Randy Schmucker

Laughter becomes the ultimate survival tool in "Apocalypse FM." Now on AM!

A radio show host wakes up to a desolate world, devoid of human presence. Shocked and desperate, he seeks solace in an abandoned radio station.

“…Is anybody listening?”

Genesis of the Show:

Comedy has always been a way for me to grapple with my thoughts and feelings about the world. The idea of a comedy set during an apocalypse came to me over the past year through various inspirations, between playing futuristic and apocalyptic video games like the Fallout series, listening to fictional podcasts like Welcome to Night Vale. I’ve always appreciated the absurd in comedy, and this show is an excellent opportunity to explore themes of catharsis, nihilism, coping, and hope.

Randy Schmucker (he/they)

… is a comic, artist, and performer residing in the unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinabek (also known as Ottawa). Randy brings a unique point of view that plays on his experiences as a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, as well as his mixed background of both Anishinaabe and European ancestry. Randy began his comedic career in 2019 with the first ever iteration of the Indigenous comics show, Got Land?, followed by Fresh Meat 8 shortly after. He has since graced multiple arts festivals, crowded and not-so-crowded pubs, and two Just For Laughs Showcases. Randy finds comedy as a source to bring people together, relate to one another, and to justify his flamboyant and (sometimes very) meta sense of humour. Find him on Instagram @randyisonline
