OPPORTUNITY: Marketing and Communications Officer

Fresh Meat, Ottawa’s freshest theatre festival, is searching for a Marketing and Communications Officer for Fresh Meat 9 (October 2020). Contract Dates: Flexible work between April - September; must be available for all festival dates (Oct. 8th-10th & 15th-17th).

Honorarium: $700

Reporting to Festival Director Nicholas Leno and Advising Producer Madeleine Hall, the Marketing and Communications Officer will assist in the development and execution of marketing and publicity for Fresh Meat 9. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Work with contracted designers and festival producers to develop Fresh Meat 9 marketing materials

  • Work with festival producers to organize an artist photoshoot 

  • Manage all festival social media accounts leading up to and during the festival

  • Manage and update festival website

  • Work with festival venue to develop and circulate an accessibility guide

  • Solicit and coordinate interviews with various media outlets 

  • Manage a modest marketing and advertising budget

  • Assist the Festival Director in securing sponsorships 

The ideal Candidate would be/have:

  • Familiar with Fresh Meat, it’s mandate, and the artists it serves

  • A resident of Ottawa

  • Able to engage audiences, artists & partners, on- and offline

  • Excellent written communication skills 

  • Experience marketing arts related events to the public 

  • Knowledge of social media advertising platforms 

  • Fundamental understanding of design concepts and an ‘eye’ for graphics

  • Experience working with artists from underrepresented communities 

Considered an Asset:

  • Experience with graphic design software

  • Experience with Squarespace web hosting platform 

  • A working knowledge of both official languages

About Fresh Meat: Fresh Meat is an artistic playground that gives local theatre creators a unique opportunity to test new ideas in front of an audience. Each year, 10 Ottawa theatre makers are invited to create and perform a brand new 20-minute performance piece at our two-weekend festival each October. 

Founded in 2012, Fresh Meat has housed over 80 20-minute world premieres and paid out more than $50,000 to local creators in direct exchange for their work. Seedlings planted at Fresh Meat have grown into full length productions and have been produced at undercurrents, Fem Fest, Intrepid Theatre, The NAC, Fringes across Canada, and more.
